What to Expect After a Labiaplasty
In 2013, according to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, over 5,000 women had a Labiaplasty performed. This is a 44% increase from the pervious year.
Unfortunately, fear is still the main reason women put off the decision for a Labiaplasty. Whether it is the potential for pain or a long recovery, choosing surgery with too many unknowns can be daunting.
However, the Labiaplasty healing process is similar to any minor surgery. With the guidance of a Board Certified cosmetic surgeon, such as Dr. Vitenas, women can be back to normal activities in no time.
Discomfort after the Labiaplasty:
Pain after the Labiaplasty is a major concern for many women. It is common to experience mild to moderate discomfort for the first several days following surgery. Dr. Vitenas will always prescribe the necessary pain medications to ensure a comfortable recovery.
Labiaplasty Aftercare:
After surgery, woman may experience swelling and redness. Ice packs can help keep the swelling to a minimum. It is important that patients keep the vaginal area clean, especially after urination. A daily Sitz bath is normally recommended. A topical antibiotic ointment will be prescribed to help protect against infection. An oral antibiotic may also be prescribed. Tight clothing is discouraged until the area has fully healed.
After a Labiaplasty, you can:
- Shower after 24 hours.
- Bath in tub after three to four weeks.
- Drive once finished with narcotics.
- Return to work after three to seven days.
- Exercise after two to four weeks.
- Resume sexual activity after six weeks.
- See the full results in three months (after all swelling has resolved).
